Saint Paul College A Community & Technical College

American Sign Language Interpreting

Saint Paul College strives to provide a welcoming and accessible learning environment for all DHH students. We have an experienced staff of American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters on site, which allows you to make timely requests for interpreting services for campus events and co-curricular activities. Students and prospective students can arrange interpreting service by contacting the ADR office at accessresources@dzxliu.com. Staff and faculty should contact Human Resources to request interpreting service for employees.

SPC ASL interpreters are familiar with specialized terminology in technical and career programs, and they understand how to communicate with offices throughout campus. All Saint Paul College interpreters adhere to the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct and are committed to providing you with responsive, confidential communication that is tailored to your needs.

What to Expect

After you have arranged for service, you can expect an interpreter to be ready at your class/event. Upon arrival, interpreters will assess the environment and attempt to make any adjustments necessary to provide the most effective interpreting services possible. Interpreters generally arrive at your event approximately 5-10 minutes early and will introduce themselves to the instructor or host of the event and give a brief explanation of interpreting services if necessary. Ultimately, the interpreter is at your class/event to facilitate communication. If you have questions or concerns regarding lighting, seating, or other details, please see the instructor or host of the event and the interpreter will facilitate this communication. In some cases, SPC interpreters may not be able to interpret a class or event due to a conflict or absence. If an SPC interpreter is not available, the ADR office will arrange for an external interpreter to provide service.

Late Policy

Students are not required to report absences or lateness to the ADR office or interpreters, but advance notice is appreciated. Interpreters will wait ¼ the total length of the event or class, up to a maximum of thirty minutes.
